Leslie Hendricks (friend & golf partner), whose bookplate appears above Murdoch's on the front pastedown. The letter is on Moor Park Golf Club, Rickmansworth, Herts. stationery, and Herd complains that he has made few friends since moving there from Coombe Hill, but, "I hope to have the pleasure of seeing you here one day, we will be opening the second Course in about a fortnight so you could sample both when you come over. They aren't bad golf, beautiful turf through the Course...." Near fine, with scarce letter & inscription. (400/700).

A rare (and likely the only) history of golf in Kenya & ex-patriate life in the colonies, with detailed records & biographies. According to Murdoch, the author apparently buried most of the copies of the book in his garden when he fled Kenya during the Mau Mau uprising, hence its scarcity.
