New York: Doubleday & McClure, 1899.
BAL 15031; Cowan p.8778; Zamorano Eighty 58 - Last words on p. 106 are "for him." A "sordid story" involving the life and mercenary instincts of an unlicensed San Francisco dentist, with "masterly descriptions of California's most glamorous city." Considered one of the greatest of all American novels, and a masterpiece of American Literary Naturalism. Bookplate of Arthur R. Andersen. Spine a bit faded with a tiny inkstain, slight discoloration to cloth; hinges starting to crack, still a very good.
(250/350).

San Francisco: John Henry Nash, 1929.
Cowan p.483; Howes P308 - Without the limitation statement but in the binding issued with the 1 of 250 (instead of the cloth trade ed.). Intimate biography of Cornelius Cole who abandoned his law practice in New York to join the rush of California gold seekers in 1849, eventually becoming one of the new state's leading citizens. Cowan notes that the work is "well presented, and is happily free from certain features which disfigure so-called `modern biography,'" without detailing what those features are. Fine with perhaps a touch of fading to spine & slipcase. (100/150).

Jackson's most famous photographs were his views of the semi-mythical Mount of the Holy Cross taken in the summer of 1873, the first photographs ever taken of the peak.
