| With early inscription from Burroughs to Ed Gilbert, "To Edward H. Gilbert, whose taste in literature & sisters indicates that he is a remarkable fellow. From his friend, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Tarzana, Aug. 12, 1928" on the front free endpaper. Gilbert's sister Florence added an inscription to the front pastedown some years later, after her divorce from Ashton Dearholt and 1935 marriage to ERB, "For Edwin Gilbert, who has remarkable taste in friends and sisters, from his sister, Florence Gilbert Burroughs," and her bookplate has been placed beneath the inscription. - On Mars, Captain U.
