Description:
Signed by poet, numbered 115/160. 3½x13¼, when folded out measures 15 feet. Its enclosure is constructed of handmade flax paper and fastened with goat skin and bone.
This long, single poem was printed from hand-set Samson Uncial type onto kakishibu, a persimmon-washed handmade paper from Japan. The accordian-style binding, reveals 43 14-line stanzas. The image of a river undulated alongside the poem while the setting of the poem itself mirrors the serpentine meanders of the river. The book can be found in many institutional collections including the Getty Center, the New York Public Library, Houghton Library at Harvard University, Yale, Brown, the British Library, and at Trinity College in Dublin.
