76 vols. (Unbroken run, Vols. I-LXXVI). Wtih steel-engraved added pictorial title-pages in each volume, plus occasional plates and maps within, a few hand-colored. 5¾x3½, uniform period gilt-ruled calf, spines tooled in gilt, marbled endpapers & edges.
The first 76 volumes of this important compilation of original travel narratives, historical accounts, natural history writings, etc. Among the many significant contributions are Basil Hall's travel narratives in three volumes; Michael Symes' "An Account of an Embassy to the Kingdom of Ava [i.e. Burma] in the Year 1795," in two volumes; " An Account of the Natives of the Tonga Islands in the South Pacific Ocean" by John Martin, two volumes; John Cochrane's "A Pedestrian Journey Through Russia and Siberian Tartary..." in two volumes; "The Book of Butterflies, Sphinxes, and Moths; Illustrated by Ninety-Six Engravings, Colored After Nature," by Thomas Brown, 2 volumes; and many other significant works.
Condition:
Spines well worn, lacking nearly all of the labels, also lacking portions of a number of the spine strips, and all of one, a few covers detached; occasional foxing or darkening within, small address labels of the former owner on the front pastedowns, else good, internally very good, sold as is.
