Description:
[4], 128, 14, 20, [7] pp. 8¾x7, full period calf (slightly speckled), covers branded with geometric-patterned designs around margins, spine tooled in gilt, gilt-lettered red morocco spine label, marbled endpapers.
"Direction to the Binder" page states "This volume shound not be lettered as the fourth, but as a detached piece; another volume of the Painters being intended, which will compleat the work." This issue contains no illustrations or portrait plates.
Condition:
Leather rubbed, scratches, joints splitting, small inked paper tag on upper spine, ends chipped, corners bumped; hinges cracked, foxing, evidence of bookplate removal and with inked note on the front pastedown, other light wear; internally very good, in a good or better (but interesting) binding.
