| 13 volumes, containing all 78 numbers, complete run. Vol. I, No. 1 (Jan. 1, 1822) to Vol. 13, No. 78 (June 1, 1828). With 156 plates (all but 4 copper-engraved or aquatint), 52 of them hand-colored; 2 are double-page, 4 are folding; plus folding table; wood engravings in the text. 8¼x5, later ¾ gilt-ruled tan polished calf & cloth, spines tooled in gilt with sporting motifs, raised bands, morocco lettering pieces, marbled endpapers, top edges gilt; bound by Riviere & Son. |
| Complete run of this important sporting magazine, including the rare final issue of June 1, 1828. Covered, of course, is the hunting of foxes, and "Hunting, Shooting, Coursing, Racing, Fishing, Cocking, Pugilism, Wrestling, Single Stick, Pedestrianism, Cricket, Billiards, Rowing, Sailing, &c. &c." Especially noteworthing for the marvelous engraved plates, many hand colored (the hand-colored ones are primarily in the earlier volumes), showing horse racing, fox-hunting, grouse shooting, fishing, famous sportsmen, dogs, horses, and more; including are a number of plans of race courses around England. |
