[viii] (including front flyleaf), 251, [1] pp. Frontispiece by Maynard Dixon with tissue-guard. (8vo) 7½x4¾, dark gray cloth stamped in silver. First Edition, First Printing.
First printing of London's first book. Identifiable by collation (per BAL) or by two more obvious issue points which have recently been identified: first issue has tipped-in frontispiece, later issues with frontispiece sewn in; first issue has comma after the year (1900) on copyright page, later issues have punctuation corrected with a period. BAL 11869; Sisson & Martens, p. 1.
Condition:
Mild tarnishing of silver stamping on spine, more to front cover corners; old name to front free endpaper (dated 1900), occasional pencil markings; otherwise very good.
