| A highspot of 20th-Century American literature; signed by the author on the half-title. First state with the yellow stained top edge matching the yellow cloth, the front pastedown with a map of the town, the word "lay" on p.86 (line 5) and broken type on p. 251 in "the." |

| Soiling, spine slightly faded (½" tear to head), old wear to spine label, ends and corners a bit bumped; front hinge tender, clipped piece of related printed text tipped-in on rear flyleaf, evidence of printed paper removal on verso of last text page, small circular gilt-lettered red leather label of Neva and Guy Littell on front pastedown (not affecting map but causing minor offsetting to front free endpaper; about very good. |
