Description:
246, [2] pp. 4 woodcut text illustrations. (8vo) period boards, later rebacking, errata slip tipped in at front, edges untrimmed. First Edition.
An early (possibly the first) American work on brewing. Includes, in addition to the information on brewing and tanning, instruction on “the Bordeaux method of making and preparing claret wine for shipping, which may be successfully applied to the wines of this country, particularly those of Kaskaskias.” Well represented in institutional holdings but rarely appearing on the market, no copies have appeared at auction in at least 30 years.
Condition:
Boards with soiling and some edge wear; foxing, old repair to one leaf; very good.
