An eclectic selection of material ranging from early printed books and medieval manuscripts to lovely Japanese woodblocks and striking modern prints. Among the highlights of the Fine & Rare Books section is the first edition first issue of the folio King James Bible, 1611, “The Great He Bible”, one of the supreme and most sought after works of the English language, with other works of literary, scientific, and cultural importance. Forty Hiroshige ukiyo-e woodblock prints will be offered, including three first printings from the series “Eight Views of the Suburbs of Edo,” plus 37 prints from the series “Famous Views of the Sixty-Odd Provinces.” Many Japanese and Chinese artworks dating from the 18th to 20th century will also be available, including a small group of hand-painted scrolls. Nearly 100 other pieces of fine and decorative art will be offered, including a rare set of progressive printings of the Rainbow Zenith poster by David Lance Goines, a very large 1920s color lithograph poster for the magician Carter the Great, and an original oil painting of an old Spanish church by Will Sparks. The selection of maps from The Richard W. Allen Collection of Japanese Maps, Part II, is headlined by the 1860 Seoul, Korea, printing on 12 sheets of Ferdinand Verbiest’s 1674 world map.
PBA Dynamic Bidding
When you place an absentee bid online, PBA's Dynamic Bidding will calculate your absentee bid against competing absentee bids and determine the current high bid amount. So, for example, if you place an absentee bid of $200 on an item with a minimum bid of $100, you will be notified that you are the high bidder and the bid is at $100. If a second bidder then places a bid of $150, your bid will be incremented up to $160. The under bidder will also be notified by email that their bid was outbid with a link to the item to enter a higher bid if desired. The current high bid will be the starting bid when the lot comes up in the live auction itself. In addition to providing full transparency, Dynamic Bidding will allow you to make more informed decisions.
