Treasures at PBA

By Sharon Gee

Excitement fills the air with the announcement of our second “Treasures from our Warehouse” sale to take place on Thursday, August 29th.  The first Treasures sale held in December of last year had lively bidding on almost all lots and we anticipate the same will be true of this sale.  All lots, whether it is a single book, a shelf or in- between, will start at our minimum increment of $10 with no reserve.  Because of the nature of this sale, all lots are sold “as is” and we will not take returns.  Expected shipping costs will be a minimum of $30 per group lot but please contact us for details. We cannot provide Media Mail or USPS delivery options.

We are also pleased to announce what we hope will be a future treasure, the introduction of PBA Dynamic Bidding! Starting with auction 514, our books by the shelf sale, you will know where your bid stands. When you place an absentee bid online, PBA’s Dynamic Bidding will calculate your absentee bid against competing absentee bids and determine the current high bid amount.  So, for example, if you place an absentee bid of $200 on an item with a minimum bid of $100, you will be notified that you are the high bidder and the bid is at $100.  If a second bidder then places a bid of $150, your bid will be incremented up to $160.   The under bidder will also be notified by email that their bid was outbid with a link to the item to enter a higher bid if desired. The current high bid will be the starting bid when the lot comes up in the live auction itself. In addition to providing full transparency, Dynamic Bidding will allow you to make more informed decisions.

We have had to say goodbye to one or real treasures in our office, Inventory Manager, Megan Hipsley.  Megan decided to return to the East Coast to be closer to family and to attend graduate school.  We will miss her greatly.  William Taylor has agreed to join our staff as Inventory Manager.  William is not only an accomplished writer and poet but has a great deal of experience caring for and shipping fine books and ephemera.  Read the rest of his bio under Meet the Staff on our website.

Lastly, our greatest treasures are you, our customers.  We will continue to tweak our website and auction process based on feedback many of you have been kind enough to share with us.  Although we can’t implement every idea, we will continue  to make your buying and/or selling with PBA Galleries an easy, pleasant, and rewarding experience.
