Compilation of government, military and diplomatic reports relating to the aftermath of the Treaty of New Echota, when representatives of a minority Cherokee political faction signed away Cherokee lands in Georgia and the Carolinas and agreed to move to Indian Territory, now Oklahoma, which resulted in the forced emigration known as the Trail of Tears. A compelling and poignantly detailed record. The significant map is "Plat of Cherokee Lands, Ind. Ter.", by Isaace McCoy, measuring 10.5x19.7 cm. It is one of the earliest printed maps to depict present day Oklahoma in any detail., showing a track of land that extends from the borders of Missouri and Arkansas to the "Western Limits of the United States" (100 deg. W Longitude). This map was drawn at the conclusion of the "Trail of Tears" and shows the furthest extent of the land reserved to the Cherokees, as well as several other reservations (part of which are in what is now Kansas).
