Three parts in one, each with a separate title page. [xviii], 198; 16, [1]; 207 (i.e. 226) pp. 19 inserted plates (2 folding), plus an added engraving of "Butler's Monument" from a later source inserted at rear. (8vo) period full paneled calf, later rebacking. First Illustrated Edition.

The earliest state of each part, with all title pages dated 1709 and none mentioning that illustrations are present (later title pages include the statement "adorned with cuts"). A mock-heroic poem (first published 1663; 1664; 1678) modeled on "Don Quixote," ridiculing the hypocrisy and self-seeking of the Presbyterians and Independents. ESTC T1717. Leather bookplate of Fanny deGroot Hastings (poet and book collector) on front pastedown. Only a handful libraries have copies with all title pages dated 1709. No copies of this 1709 edition have appeared at public auction in thirty years, and the book is now uncommon in the trade.
