PBA Galleries

A large group of congressional documents all concerning the Mexican-Amerian War. All are 8vo and in generally good condition.

Although only a fraction of the total output of Congress during the war, the collection represents a good sample of congressional concerns and actions. 

Containing (the number of items are an approximation):

[1] 29^th Congress, 1^st Session. Fourteen items, including several presidential messages and Taylor’s dispatches. Also includes a report on war steamers accompanied by nine folded plates from various sources. 

[2] 29^th Congress, 2^nd Session. Fifteen documents, many concerning financing the war and various resolutions of state legislatures. 

[3] 30^th Congress, 1^st Session. Twenty-four items relating to various aspects of the war, including a long report on Frémont’s court martial and numerous reports on Yucatán.

[4] 30^th Congress, 2nd Session. Twelve items, mostly concerned with the armed forces. 

[5] 31^st Congress, 1^st Session. Four items on various topics. 

[6] 31^st Congress, 2^nd Session. One item.

[7] 32^nd Congress, 1^st Session. Six items, including a report on the Battle of Cerro Gordo.

[8] 34^th Congress, 1^st Session. Five items, including two on Frémont’s California expedition

[9] 35^th Congress, 1^st Session. Two documents concerning financial matters.

[10] 32^nd Congress, 2^nd Session – 63^rd Congress, 2^nd Session. Thirteen items dealing with various aspects of the war, some well after the fact. Includes material on paying soldiers a pension for their service.
