George Clinton (1739-1812), Revolutionary War hero, longtime governor of the state of New York, and vice president under two different presidents, signs a document attesting that Richard Varick, who had executed an annexed certificate of marriage, was indeed mayor of New York City; on the verso is a manuscript document in Latin(?), signed by Varick, but perhaps secretarialy. Provenance: A private California collection.
