Kerouac, Jack
[New York]
Signet Book

Original illustrated wrappers. First Signet Book Printing.

A incredibly rare and important association copy of On the Road, inscribed and signed by Neal Cassady, on page 254. He inscribed the book to the author, and signed it in pencil, vertically along the margin of the page: "Neal L. Cassady, Tell it John." Inscribed to the author Jack Kerouac (his birth name is Jean-Louis, but he published an early work under the name John Kerouac, and was familiarly known to Cassady as John). In addition to the incredibly rare signature of Cassady, the book is signed by foremost Beat poet Allen Ginsberg, and dated 6/16/94 on the title page. Also signed on the title page by Jami Cassady (Neal's daughter) who inscribed it to Rick, dated 7-22-01 and to Cathy Cassady. Neal Cassady was Kerouac's inspiration for the character Dean Moriarty, and copies of this novel signed by Cassady are quite rare. PBA Galleries last sold a copy of the 6th Viking Press edition of this work inscribed by Cassady in 2011 for $4,500. This association copy, being inscribed to the author and on a rear page, is much more scarce. He died in February, 1968 in Mexico, where he had been living for awhile. His autograph is incredibly scarce.
