With engraved and photogravure illustrations throughout the set; frontispiece portrait in each; title page and initial letters (printed in three colors) designed by Dard Hunter. 11¼x7½, publisher's uniform red half morocco and boards, decoratively stamped in dark brown, spines tooled and lettered in gilt, raised bands, top edges gilt, other edge untrimmed, each with thin attached ribbon bookmark. Volume 1 is No. 470 of 1000 sets, all others are No. 290 of 1000. The ''Author's Edition.'' 

A beautifully printed and bound set. Each volume signed in Hubbard's name. The final volume, was published in 1915, the same year when Hubbard was killed while aboard the RMS Lusitania, the British luxury ocean liner that was sunk by the German's during WWI, killing nearly 1200 people. The sinking turned public opinion in many countries against Germany.
