The volume of Folwell's printing of the laws of the United States containing an early printing of the Declaration of Independence of July 4, 1776, setting the British colonies in American on the path to nationhood, on pp. [541]-546. This is followed by the "Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union" between the newly independent states, adopted in March of 1781, which document was superseded by the more robust Constitution of 1787, laying the foundation of our national government. Also included in the volume are numerous treaties between the U.S. and European nations, with tribes of Native Americans, etc.; also various acts and law as were passed.
