Chromolithograph image of six Russian youths within a border, a message written in Russian reads, "So many heads, as much brains" and "Not everybody has a wife like you have, just one who got it from God." 6¼x19½.

Russian artist Elizabeth Merkurevna Bem (1843-1914) was known for her graceful and humorous silhouettes of children. Her success was international, and she illustrated magazines, books, and postcards.

Condition:

Faint smudges on edges; else near fine.
