Venice: Bernardus Banalius, Sept. 16, 1512. 87 ff. Collation: a-k8, l7. Lacking the final leaf, presumably a blank. Text in two columns, Gothic type. Woodcut initials. (Folio) 12x8¼, period blind-tooled pigskin over wooden boards by Brother Johannes Hirtmus at the Convent of Nurnberg. First Editions of these two important works by the Alexandrian Theologian, Origen. The large Aldine anchor and dolphin device appears in the colophon of this edition. Aldus' anonymous preface to the reader contains the first printed reference to the financial partnership of Aldus and his father-in-law Andreas Torresanus. On the title leaf of the first work appears in large ornamental script: "Liber datus Conuentui Heidelbergen a Conuentu Nurmbergen, ad preces fratris Aug9 Lupff theoe professoris Anno 1517. Fr. Wolfgangus colprecht prior in Nurmberga."

Spine lacking, only one clasp remains, joints and hinges split; worming to both works, heaviest at the beginning of the first work and at the end of the second, marginal staining to a few leaves at front; else good.
