A copy with an American provenance as indicated by the plethora of notes written in the margins by the original owner, William Ward of Salem in the Province of Massachusetts, dated 1760 and 1761. He states that he bought this book "of Daniel King November 15th 1759." On the half title he wrote "Suppose this book wherein you look, should happen to be lost. Bring it to me for I am he that best knows what it cost." Signed "William Ward Jan 26-1760" and "Bay Mohaut on Guadalupa in the West Indies. He was obviously educated. He wrote, in very many of the margins, notes on the location of his schooner Wolf, weather conditions, hardships and snippets of poetry. OCLC and Copac locate no copies of the 1759 edition.
