Inscribed presentation copy, signed by Bierce to the grandniece of author Ina Coolbrith and co-author a story in this book: “Ina Lillian Peterson, from her friend and co-author, Ambrose Bierce, Oakland, Cal., Jan. 21, 1894.” Ina Peterson (later Ina Cook) co-wrote the story “An Affair at Brownville” at pp. 73-89. Includes a folded 2-page carbon letter by Ina L. Cook to author/biographer Carey McWilliams in response to his request for information on the Bierce biography he was working on at the time, dated April 24, 1929, Berkeley, inside a typed envelope, laid in. No ad pages in this copy, but: “Note: in some copies…the advertisements at back…are excised” – BAL1114. Bookplate of Finlay Cook (of San Francisco), presumably the husband of Ina Lillian Cook.
