With 75 hand-colored maps (15 are double-page), plus insets; 9 hand-colored plates showing comparable heights of buildings, solar system, time table, populations, and other statistical information; numerous wood engravings within the text, including 2 pages of several portraits; and a pictorially engraved title page. 14x11¾, original quarter maroon calf and cloth, front cover stamped in gilt.

Forty-two of the maps pertain to the United States. Double-page maps include: a historical chart of the world; United States; New York; Texas with Indian Territory; California, Oregon and Nevada; South America; Europe; Asia; Africa; Oceania, etc.

Condition:

Lacks spine, covers detached, light stains; mild toning to contents; maps near fine.
