xi, 306 pp. Illustrated with numerous plates from photographs and paintings; plus 9 color plates with tissue-guards. 10x7½, original decorative green cloth, spine lettered in gilt, top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed. First Edition.

The first written history of St. Andrews Golf Club and, as Murdoch states, "a monumental effort of original research and one that is most readable, even today." The illustrations include some of the first in color of golf. Donovan & Murdoch 16090; Murdoch 237.

Condition:

Spine ends a bit crimped, corners lightly rubbed; light foxing to page edges; front hinge tender, offsetting to free endpapers, otherwise a superb copy, near fine to fine - seldom seen in better condition.
