According to Olman "Two golf paintings were commissioned to be painted by one of the founders of the Stetson Shoe Company of South Weymouth, Massachusetts. In 1908, prints were produced and were distributed to Stetson's customers as a promotion. Both of the subjects were caddies at St. Andrews where they were painted on location." Next to Olman's illustration of this print: "In 1928, a second edition was necessary, however they were produced from one of the earlier prints as the painting had been lost. A recent version [presumably this item], also in color, was printed in 1979 in a smaller size" - Olman & Olman "Encyclopedia of Golf Collectibles," (1980), pp. 160-61.
