Consists of 123 pages of manuscript documents, appraisals, sales of property, inventories, receipts, indentures, etc. Signatures of Daniel Boone’s offspring and relatives appear on many of the documents including: Squire Boone, Nathan, Enoch (first white man born in Kentucky), and Daniel M. Some of the handwriting in this collection closely resembles that of Daniel Boone. However, this cannot be guaranteed, as the writing of his sons had very similar writing. Several documents bear Boone’s stylized “B”s and “D”s, and those documents signed by Daniel M. Boone bear an uncanny resemblance to that of his father. It appears that at one time handwriting expert Keith Thompson worked to substantiate that at least some of the writing was of Daniel Boone. Some antiquated photocopies which accompany this lot seem to support his hypothesis. A remarkable archive on the Boone family and early Kentucky, worthy of further research.

Daniel Morgan Boone. 1769-1839. Son of Daniel Boone. Pioneer, trapper, hunter, explorer, surveyor and farmer. His three-room log cabin with “sawn stone” fireplace is preserved in the Kansas City Museum.
