Description:
One page, 4to, probably to Pierpont Edwards. Good political letter “…I passed through Litchfield the other day, Holmes and I had a conversation on the subject – he states that after conversing with Erastus Granger, who has been eight months in the southward he thought it was best to send a Republican to Congress as an Agent – but he conversed with Tracey who said if a Republican Agent was sent it would damn the business – he had therefore changed his opinion and thought that it would be a great injuring for me to go…you must be the man…I have considerable knowledge of the feelings of the Demo’s – and if you do not go – the business must be left exclusively to the Management of old Empties.”
