22 pp. text plus 26 engraved plates by Doré, each with descriptive caption on facing page. Engraved vignette on title page by Elihu Vedder. (Folio) 18¼x14½, gray pictorial cloth stamped in gilt, black and dark green, all edges gilt. Comments by Edmund C. Stedman. First American Edition with Doré illustrations. Doré's dark engravings are the perfect accompanyment to Poe's classic, brooding poem.

Condition:
Rubbing to joints and extremities, corners and spine ends bumped, soiling, rub marks to covers, slight darkening to cover margins; front hinge cracked, rear hinge tender, faint 5" dampstain to upper margin at fore-edge affecting first half of book, previous owner's ink signature on front prelim., first full-page engraved plate detached with short tears, edge wear and darkening to fore-edge; still near very good.
