(4to) 12½x9½, bound in full period morocco, Vol. 4 green, Vol. 5 brown, both decoratively tooled and lettered in gilt on the spines and front covers, decorative brown and black marginal stamping, marbled endpapers, beveled edges, hinges enforced with cloth, all edges gilt. A profusely illustrated set with attractive steel-engraved plates and other wood-engraved scenes of historical and literary figures. Scenes and articles from around the world include: Scenery of the Pacific Railway; Traditions of Christian Art; The Stately Homes of England; Works of Edward J. Condition:
Joints and extremities rubbed, light soiling, minor scuffs to leather; 1878 volume with front joint split through and front board loose; 1877 volume with faint waterstains to lower margin on pp. 71-75; rear hinge of 1878 volume tender; plates and text fairly clean and intact with only occasional slight fingering and/or foxing (more so to 1878 volume); else a very good or better set.
