Lacroix's famed compilation on the art, culture, costume, and intellectual achievements of France from the middle ages through the downfall of Napoleon, notable for the fine printing, profusion of illustrations, and spectacular chromolithographed plates. The present set is handsomely bound, each volume with the bookplate of Albert Gorge, and with his initials stamped in gilt on the lower right corner of the front cover.

Condition:
Minor scuffing to the spines and extremities; most with light foxing to fore-edges, each with paper label affixed to front pastedown, tissue guard adhered to one plate in XVIIIme Siècle Lettres, Sciences et Arts, still in near fine to fine condition, very attractive.
