6 volumes. Issued with 300 chromolithographs and 200 duotone lithographs (approximately 30 plates lacking) in the plate volumes and 12 duotones (on 6 sheets) in the first, text volume. (folios) 16x11, period half-morocco, top edges gilt. First Edition. Racinet's masterwork on historic dress of the world, perhaps the most famous of all chromolithographed costume books of the 19th century, the lovely plates are often highlighted with gold and silver.

Lot Amendments

Condition:
Bindings dry and worn with most covers detached, some light foxing to preliminaries and text leaves, but almost all of the plates clean and bright with only occasional minor darkening to the edges or finger soiling, a very few with small stains or adhesions. Vols II-VI each missing a few plates. Sold as is.
