60 pp. Translated by Edgar Alfred Bowring. Illustrated with 6 plates of etchings by Hermann Faber, 3 of which have their original tissue-guard; plus a plate from a sketch titled "Etchings" before the list of plates. 10¼x7¼, original decorative maroon cloth, stamped in gilt, dark brown, and cream, lettered in gilt, all edges gilt. Goethe's "novelette in verse" about a young girl who finds love after fleeing from the French Revolution. Etchings by Hermann Faber (1832-1913), who is best known as an American Civil War caricaturist.

Spine ends and corners a bit bumped, rub marks to covers with tiny light green discoloration spots, faint dampstaining to right margin of rear cover, spine slightly faded, light soiling; lacks a preliminary page, else contents clean, images fine; still very good.
