A young man from the waist up, in plain uniform with buttons highlighted in gold. On the inside of the case under the tintype is written in pencil in an old hand: "R.S. Slawson, Taken before he enlisted for the war." The brass mat has imprint of Dean & Emerson, Worcester, Mass., along the edge.
