Title:
The Last Trail: A Story of Early Days in the Ohio Valley

Author:
Grey, Zane

Place:
New York

Publisher:
A. L. Burt

Date:
[1909]

Description:
[2], 300 + [2] ad pp. Illustrated with frontispiece & 3 other half-tone plates from paintings by J. Watson Davis. 7¼x5, original green cloth lettered in white, pictorial cover onlay, new endpapers. First Edition. Special presentation copy, inscribed on the frontispiece verso: "Presented to Ada Kunekeli by The Author at Lackawaxen, Pa., Aug. 7/09." The true first edition published by A.L. Burt; a publisher that usually produces reprints. According to the Myers bibliography, the true first state requires 2 ad pages at the rear (which is most likely true); however, this is not consistent. FPAA v. 5, p. 122 calls for 7 pages of publisher's ads to be a true first state, but this is probably incorrect. Copies obtained from the Zane Grey estate had 2 ad pages.

Lot Amendments

Condition:
Spine and extremities light rubbed slightly affecting the white lettering, corners a bit bumped; minor dampstaining to frontispiece and title page margins, front hinge starting to crack, bookseller's rubberstamp on the rear pastedown, else very good.
