Record of testimony in the matter of seating Reed Smoot, elected senator from Utah, at the time he was also serving as an Apostle in the Mormon Church. The controversy over the Church's policy regarding plural marriage, and other aspects of L.D.S. Church politics and policies, sparked a four-year battle in the Senate, as much a trial of the Mormon Church as of Smoot himself. Smoot was finally allowed to take his seat in the Senate on 20 February 1907. He was re-elected in 1908, 1914, 1920, and 1926, and served from 4 March 1903 to 3 March 1933.
