2 vols. [2], cxxxi, 508; vii, 605 pp. Illus. with 10 steel-engraved plates; folding map. Original blue cloth, spines lettered in gilt. First Edition in English.

Presentation copy inscribed and signed by Brenchley on the title-page of Vol. I. "Charles Henry Barham, from the Author, Julius Brenchley, Jume 1861." Wagner-Camp relates that "Remy and his companion Julius Lucius Brenchley traveled from San Francisco to Salt Lake City in the summer of 1855. After a month's stay they left for Los Angeles, which they reached on November 29, and then returned to San Francisco... The Frenchmen were fascinated by the Mormons, and much of this book is devoted to the new American religion." Flake 6867; Howes R210; Sabin 69594; Wagner-Camp 364:2.

Condition:

Spine a bit darkened, some rubbing to extremities; a few signatures sprung, else very good or better, seldom found so nice.
