One page, 8.25” x 12.5,” Staten Island, September 17, 1761. To Col. William Byrd sending thanks for a letter delivered by Lieut. Irwin and stating: “…I thank you for having ordered Captains Stuart and McKenzie away; as they will not be wanted on the frontier, it will be better for them and for the Regiments they belong to, that they are with them…” Accompanied by a Partly-printed Document Signed by William Byrd, one page, oblong 8vo, December 15, 1756, concerning the payment of 400 pounds owed to John Robinson, Esq.

Commander in Chief of North America, 1759; captured Ticonderoga, July 27, and Crown Point, August 4; Appointed Governor General of British North America, 1760-63. William Byrd. 1728-1777. Served as a member of the Council of Virginia, and Colonel of the 2nd Virginia Regiment.
