xiii, [1], 890 pp. With 26 lithographed plates from photographs, most taken by Timothy O'Sullivan. 11½x9, original cloth, rebacked with original spine strip laid on, new endpapers. Issued as the second volume in Clarence King's highly important Report of the Geological Exploration of the Fortieth Parallel, which totalled seven volumes and 2 atlases. The present volume presents a general geological description of the land explored, and is particularly noteworthy for the lithographic plates. With rubberstamp of Benj. L. Miller to the title-page; bookplate of John Sinkankas.
