[12], 228, 333-592, 457-654, [6] pp. Illustrated with 12 copper-engraved plates; folding table. (folio) 14x8½, period mottled calf, spine tooled in gilt, raised bands, morocco label. First Edition. Issued as the first volume of Hill's A General Natural History: or, New and Accurate Dscriptions of the Animals, Vegetables, and Minerals, of the Different Parts of the World. The other volumes, issued in 1751 and 1752, covered Plants and Animals; of the three books, Hill states, "Each being in itself a compleat History of one of the Three great Classes of Natural Bodies." Hill's system of Mineralogy never enjoyed great popularity. The unusual pagination is correct, as described in the directions to the binder. Sinkankas 2943.
