191 pp. Illustrated with 21 lithographed plates (13 folding, 2 hand-colored) & 4 lithographed maps (3 folding, 3 hand-colored). 9x5¼, modern half cloth & marbled boards, gilt decorations and lettering, new endpapers; bound by John Sinkankas, stamped with his initials.

Significant geologic explorations as the frontier was being pushed westward, leading to inevitable clashes with the earlier inhabitants; includes investigation of the mysterious mounds left by earlier civilizations. With the bookplate of John Sinkankas. Sabin 58008.

Condition:

A little darkening to the paper, else very good or better in fine modern binding, with the hand-colored plates bright.
