Exploration of Iceland by the notable Joseph Banks, who withdrew from accompanying James Cook on his second voyage for the purpose of making the journey north. Pp. xviii-xxvi comprise a "Catalogue of Writers on Iceland," listing some 120 publications. Possibly the first edition in English, though it may have been preceded by the London edition of the same year. Lacking the folding frontispiece map and the engraved plate of a geyser, both of which have been supplied in facsimile. With the bookplate of John Sinkankas.
