Presentation copy inscribed "To Mr. Carson Breevort, withe respects of G.K. Warren" on the front flyleaf. Howes W120 states that "This re-issue of material from ...earlier editions was made to meet the interest awakened by the Black Hills gold discovery of 1874." The large folding "Military Map of Nebraska and Dakota" by Warren is reissued from the 1859 edition, which is described by Wheat (Transmississippi V, p.144, map 2005) as "a landmark of the period of 1859. The map reaches from the Canadian Border to the Smoky Hill Fork of the Kansas, and from the Missouri River to the Rocky Mountains. While chiefly made to show Lieutenant Warren's explorations, the many other explorers' routes, carefully shown, and particularly General Harney's route, give this map a position that is notable among all those of this period." This copy has been nicely rebound by John Sinkankas, and bears his bookplate. The folding map is loose in a pocket at rear.
