Ram Dass, previously known as Dr. Richard Alpert, collaborated with Timothy Leary as Doctors of psychology at Harvard in the 1960s, researching the effects of LSD and other psychedelic chemicals. In 1967, Dr. Richard Alpert went to India, where he met his guru, Neem Karoli Baba, who gave him the name, Ram Dass, which means "servant of God."
