Original photograph album containing 97 silver gelatin prints (most 8x14"), mounted to album leaves. Original black morocco album (18½x10¼"), with "Catalina" handwritten on the front.

Photographs of Grey and others, taken various places including Catalina Island, Arizona, and fishing in the Pacific. Includes several photographs captured aboard Grey's yacht, the Gladiator, in the waters off Southern California, as well as a number of images of Grey with his secretary and mistress, Mildred Smith, and with Louise Anderson, who was a teenager when the 50-year-old Grey is supposed to have taken her as a lover. It seems that Grey collected some of his best photographs to be printed in this large format album (most Grey albums contain smaller, standard format images). Some of the views of Catalina and the American Southwest are truly spectacular.  Provenance: descended through the family of Zane Grey; Bonhams, Feb. 2011.
