[62] pp. of text. With 15 (of 16) color plates by Beatrix Potter, including the frontispiece. 5¼x4, original pictorial pink boards. One of 500 copies printed. First Edition.

Inscribed in the author's hand on front free endpaper, unsigned. Privately printed first edition of Potter's scarce second book, which is said to have been her favorite. She preferred this privately printed version to Warne's published version, from which it varied substantially, because it contained more of the old rhymes. Quinby 3.

Lot Amendments

Covers worn, small stain on front board, pages completely detached from binding but for the frontispiece which remains attached to the front free endpaper, 1903 gift inscription on front free endpaper; lacking one plate (p.69); fair only.

We are specialists at packing and shipping books and works on paper.   All lots purchased by the same client are combined for shipping in order to keep the cost as economical as possible.  Our preferred method for domestic shipments is UPS Ground but we can also ship via FedEx or USPS.  For international orders we select the most appropriate carrier depending on the value and weight of the items purchased.  We are happy to accommodate special arrangements by request.

Invoices are sent out the day following the auction and include a $10 handling fee plus actual shipping and insurance charges.
