• Jan. 13, 1970. 1½ pp. on 2 sheets. Thanking Henrichs for birthday wishes "It is hard for me to realize that I am now in my ninety-fifth year... My doctor tells me that there is no reason why I shouldn't at least reach the century mark..."
• Feb. 4, 1970, 1 p. Responding to a request for his book Fifty Years with the Golden Rule, "I am more than pleased to send you two paper bound copies of the book which I have autographed for you... Enclosed, herewith, is an invoice to cover charges for the books..."
• Feb. 24, 1970. 1 p. Thanking Henrichs for his interest in two additional books by Penney, noting he is sending them with an invoice, also telling of attending the recent Penney Company Managers' Convention in White Sulphur [sic] Springs, West Virginia.
• Paperback copy of Penney's book "Fifty Years with the Golden Rule" signed by him on front blank.

Letters from the discount department store magnate and entrepreneur who founded the J.C. Penney stores in 1902, relating to his inspirational writings. Penney never did make it to 100 - on December 26, 1970, Penney fell and fractured his hip. Just a few weeks later, he suffered a heart attack and never fully recovered. He died February 12, 1971. The Reverend Dr. Norman Vincent Peale delivered the eulogy at Penney's funeral. Also included in the archive are various newspaper clippings relating to his life, a few inspirational printings, carbons of three letters written by Garth Henrichs to Penney, an invoice from Penney for two books, etc.
