Rare and historically valuable record of the mines and mining claims of the Mammoth Mining District in the northwestern part of Nye County, Nevada, being that part of the Paradise Range lying between the Bruner district on the north and the Fairplay district on the south. It is made up of several smaller areas, sometimes referred to as mining districts, i.e. Marble Falls, Ellsworth, Downeyville, and Gabbs. Ore was discovered in 1863 by the Indians, and in 1864, Sam. McKeon, A. T. Hatch, and others, organized a district. The ledger records all the quartz claims founded and registered in the Mammoth mining district from 1880 to the end of the century. Included are the physical locations and aspects of the mines, the owners of the mines and claims, expenditures made by the claimants and owners "of said claim for the purpose of holding said claim," the proximity of other mines, etc. Among the earlier entries is the "Affidavit of assessment work on the Esta Buena Mine for the year A.D. 1880," swearing that at least $120 dollars worth of labor or improvements was performed. The Esta Buena Mine was considered the richest mine in the area, located and owned by Don Manuel San Pedro, of Grantsville. Other mines include the Peoria, Morning Call, General Lee, Silver Wave, Mount Vernon and Lisbon, among many others.
