Tyrrell work is a "compendium of whig political doctrine,... (thirteen dialogues appeared during 1692–4; a fourteenth in 1702; further editions in 1701, 1718, 1727). It was a handbook of whig thought in defence of the ‘late, wonderful and happy Revolution’... Tyrrell attacked absolutism, defended mixed monarchy, refuted Filmer and the tory historian Robert Brady, publicized Locke's Two Treatises, and expounded the ‘Ancient Constitution’, dwelling especially on the longevity of the House of Commons since the Saxon Witengemote. He also took up the topics of trust, conquest, the meaning of St Paul's injunction to obey ‘the powers that be’, and the nature of oriental and European polities." DNB. ESTC T144687.
