Signed "Vic" in the lower right corner of third panel. Funny panel which shows a golfer who's thinking so hard about his golf instructions that he fails to hit the ball. Victor Clyde Forsythe is best known as a cartoonist having created such great comic strips as "Joe Jinks" (1918-1938), "Divot Diggers" (1929-1940), "Way Out West" (1934-1936) and "The Little Woman" (1935-36). "Divot Diggers" is probably the most successful comic strip ever to be devoted entirely to the game of Golf! It ran from 1929 through the 1930's. This panel is a precursor dated March 24, 1924. Forsythe is also famous for his South West Style paintings depicting desert landscapes etc. He signs his paintings "Clyde Forsythe." Forsythe mentored the young Norman Rockwell and introduced the unknown painter to the Saturday Everning Post. Forsythe & Rockwell became lifelong friends and shared a studio early on. This pen & ink panel was last mounted in 1985 behind glass and a 100% cotton mat. Over-all dimensions: 25"x18.75". What can be seen of the drawing is 17"x9.25".
